Several years ago we built the fire pit and added pea gravel to a muddy corner of the yard.

There may be other materials better suited for your purpose like gravel if you have it or dirt if you don t want to spend any extra money time.
A border is recommended to keep the pebbles in place but you can use wood or larger rocks for a different look.
For each course i used 12 traps and 12 minis for a total of 48 trapezoid blocks and 48 mini blocks.

You will also need to decide whether you want an above ground or below ground fire pit and how you are going to build it.
Arrange the stones in a circle to make the fire ring on top of your gravel and sand base making sure that your first layer of blocks is secure and level.
The fire sand helps with overall gas dispersion to create a more uniform flame.
So during my aha moment i decided to place the pavers from the front yard around the fire pit fill it in with pea gravel and then add some chairs for seating.
But yes you can put sand in the bottom of your fire pit.
For this fire pit i used the rumblestone pavers from home depot.

Pour a generous amount of crushed gravel paver base into the hole so your finished base will be approximately five inches thick.
